RESOURCES & TIPS
Lead Paint Tips
- In Massachusetts and New Hampshire homeowners can do a significant amount of deleading/abatement after minimal training.
- A HEPA vacuum is a must for any deleading/abatement project.
- HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. HEPA vacuums filter out 99.97% of particles down to a size of 0.3 microns (very small). Don’t be fooled by cheap shop vacuums with a HEPA filter. There is much that can “Blow By” the filter and out of the small gaps in a shop vac. True HEPA vacuums cost between $300 and $1000 dollars, depending on the size. HEPA vacuums are required for owner and contractor abatement projects in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Indoor Air Quality Tips
- Children, the elderly and individuals with compromised immune systems are most susceptible to mold or indoor air quality issues.
- Most exposures are through inhalation (breathing). Some, however can affect people through ingestion, through the skin or eyes.
